Increased pressure: When you make a fist the flexor tendons glide proximally through the carpal tunnel. In some individuals the lumbrical muscles which arise from the profundus tendons pass back into the carpal tunnel causing pressure on the median nerve. This results in tingling and numbness in the median nerve distribution to the thumb, index finger, long finger and half the ring finger.
