Psychotherapy: Psychotherapy can be practiced by all mental health professionals, psychiatrists, social workers, mental health counselors and psychologists. Clinical psychology included all the practices of clinical psychologists, including psychotherapy. Best.

Clinical psychology : Clinical psychology can only be practiced by someone who is a licensed psychologist. All sorts of professionals (counselors, social workers and psychologists) practice psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy: can be practiced by people from varied professions, social workers, psychiatrists and counselors who have varying levels of training in psychotherapy. Psychologists must have a doctorate, are licensed and can take insurance. Their many years of training in psychology and therapy as clinical psychologists makes them highly skilled practitioners.

Clarifying terms.: Think of it this way: psychotherapy is a mode of treatment, and clinical psychology is a field that explored clinical issues people face in their lives. Clinical psychologists practice psychotherapy, as do social workers, some psychiatrists, and masters level mental health counselors.

Two different things: Psychotherapy is a term that is often used to refer to a wide variety of "talk therapies." Clinical psychology, on the other hand, is a specific field of psychology that specializes in the treatment/management of severely mentally ill persons. Clinical psychologists are trained in psychotherapy, along with other modalities of treatment.

Clinical Science: Clinical psychology is a broad, highly integrated field of study including research, diagnostic evaluations, behavioral science and intensive supervision of various forms of psychotherapy. The typical degree is at the Doctoral level. Providers of psychotherapy vary in the degree of training and experience expected but many are still quite effective in providing symptomatic relief .
