Complicated: Why is it being done? The primary indication is a congenital limb length discrepancy or an acquired one. It involves cutting the bone on the affected side and either lengthening it over a rod or with an external dictator device. It can be a painful process with risk of complications including infection, non union, nerve injury, stiffness. It can take weeks to months to reach the desired length.
