A member asked:

Is the emulsification cataract surgery done under topical anesthsia?

Yes: The procedure can be done just with topical anesthesia with eye drop local anesthetics or local anesthesia gel. Some of the older ophthalmologists still use a retro bulbar block to numb the eye which may require some IV sedation.
