Painful: To swallow for a couple weeks, that is why soft foods are reccommended the first few weeks.

Pain after surgery: In young adults, a general anesthetic will be used for tonsillectomy. Once that wears off, there will be pain, which may require a strong analgesic every 4 hours or so. Bleeding is the most common complication. In the beginning, till the scab falls off, mainly drink cold or iced fluids, like gatorade. Avoid any acid (citrus) or spicy foods; soups, jello, ensure. When scab falls off, warm foods.
