Of course; not ≠ Wt.: Calories are a unit of energy, measured in a calorimeter by heating a known amount of water a specific amount. As a unit of energy, calories do not have any mass, thus do not register on a scale of body wt or any other wt. scale. If you are concerned with body weight, this is an issue of (a) mass (food) taken in & retained versus (b) mass of food removed from body; and (c) the diff. within body.
