Not necessarily -: It would be part of the surgery if it was the source of any nerve or spinal cord compression. If the compression was just due to the disc herniation, then no. Also, by reestablishing the disc height by the fusion interbody graft or implant it also further allows for decompression by enlarging the neuroforamen as well.
