Masturbation: Masturbation is a normal and common part of the human experience. All men and boys you know who are past puberty masturbate or have masturbated. It is unlikely that the act of masturbating is the cause of your depression. There are no known health consequences to this common activity. Now, that in no way means you do not have sadness or depression. I would advise finding a counselor to talk to.

Compulsive masturb?: Masturbation in itself is normal and natural. Yet it's possible to use any behavior compulsively, and to feel badly about doing it. I agree with some of my colleagues that seeing a psychologist or other professional psychotherapist will allow you to review your depression and consider whether masturbation is involved. If it's taking away from other important parts of your life, it's a problem.
