Further evaluation: It is not normal to have blood in the stool. A lot of things can give you blood in the stool such as bleeding from hemorrhoids, diverticular bleeding, infections/inflammations such as crohn's, ischemic bowel, malignancy etc. You should see and talk to your doctor about episodes of blood in the stool and you would need to get further evaluations and work-up - and colonsocopy would be one of them.

Hmmm: If it recurs you would do best to be seen by a GI doctor or colon and rectal surgeopn to determoine the source. Going within 24 hrs of seeing the blood is best and obtaining a sample placed in a zip lock bag and kept cold until office appointment would allow for confirmation of the material being actual blood.
