A couple of hours: There are a variety of different bowel preps, some more aggressive than others. In general, these start to work after a couple of hours. The gatorade/miralax is a bit more gentle. The goal is to get things cleaned out by the morning.

May not work: A gatorade and MiraLAX combination is not a common bowel prep in my experience. Miralax is an excellent laxative but if only one dose is taken, it is not likely to clean the colon out as well as is optimal for colonoscopy. A single dose might not produce a bm for a day or 2. Gatorade is an electrolyte-rich drink but not likely as effective as GoLytely or other polyethylene glycol solutions.
