Most likely: There are several things that can cause swelling of the tongue, but the one that you must be concerned is an allergic reaction, whereby if the swelling progresses it can cut off the airways causing death. There are other factors such as hereditary angioedema, which need to be evaluated by a specialist in these conditions, such as a board certified allergist.
