Echocardiogram: M-mode echocardiography, which evaluates the structure and performance of the heart, may involve measurement of intraluminal dimensions. Fractional shortening refers the fraction of any diastolic (ventricular filling phase) dimension that is lost in systole (contraction phase). 26-30% indicates mild decrease in function. Normal is 30-42%. Variables impact interpretation of this percentage.
