Symptoms?: There are multiple causes of one high blood pressure reading. If he has no symptoms, the first step is to have him lay down quietly for fifteen or twenty minutes and then retake his blood pressure. If his blood pressure is persistently elevated, and you are concerned today, you should call his primary care doctor and ask for advice. A single high reading does not mean he has hypertension.

Depends: Has he been already diagnosed with high blood pressure and is he on any medications? Does he have any symptoms like headache, numbness or blurred vision? Better call your doctor and he may be able to help you if not an emergency . You may not need to go to er just for one high reading of blood pressure.

High BP: Your don needs more than the er to determine the cause of his high bp. Start with your pediatrician or internist for a thorough examination including blood work, urinanalysis and xrays. Your doctor may want to refer son to a nephrologist.
