Can be helpful, but: Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is still an effective medication to treat influenza or prevent such with exposure-prophylaxis. There is increasing resistance and so tamiflu (oseltamivir) will not always work; also should be used within 48 hours from onset of flu symptoms, otherwise it is not worth the potential side effects. Many providers still prescribe the med even after 48 hours--often because people want it. Controversial? Yes!

Can benefit: If you have the Flu hydrate well w water, herbal teas, soup or juice. Drink sufficiently to have pale to light yellow urine. You can use pain relievers like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or NSAID’s. Rest A LOT! In some situations antiviral medications (Tamiflu, Relenza, Flumadine) may be prescribed within the first couple of days of symptoms to hasten healing or they can be used after flu exposure to prevent illness.
