Inflammation: Tender, swollen, red, warm joint, usually one, usually first metatarsal phalangeal joint, reduction of range of motion and sometimes fever.

Gout: Gout causes pain swelling redness limited motion of the affected joint. It can have a predilection for the big toe joint but can also hit the metatarsal phalangeal joint ankle knee elbow and ear lobe. Gout has it's own arthritic changes.
