See a podiatrist: There isn't really a quick fix. Get it checked properly and the podiatrist can remove the sliver of nail that is causing the problem - nail avulsion. It is an in-office procedure and does not have any significant down time. Most folks typically return to their regular shoes and activities the same day. If it is a chronic problem, the avulsion can be permanent and not bother you again.
