Not necessarily: The peer-reviewed literature on bracing after acl surgery states that it is not necessary. Nonetheless, many orthopaedic surgeons and patients "feel" better if a brace is worn. A early (6 week) postop brace is common, but much less common afterwards if the knee remains stable on examination.
