Hip issues: Legg-calve-perthes disease is a childhood condition that affects the hip. In order to diagnose, a good physical exam combined with imaging can help make the diagnosis. Imaging can start with x-rays, but may require further imaging such as a bone scan or MRI to make the diagnosis. Seeing an orthopedic specialist would be a good place to start.

Result of perthes: Usually radiographs of hips diagnose deformity.Perthes disease in acute phase affects children usually 3-9 years with peak at 5-7 yrs. More common in boys. Decreased blood supply to femoral head causes fracture and deformity. Phases of fragmentation and fattening of femoral head when recovered can leave deformity. Adults who had problem as child can have arthritis from residual deformity.
