Not Common: While this may be a good long term goal, Ironman Triathlons are not well suited to athletes of this age. Some races may not even let minors participate without parental consent. If she is truly interested in triathlons, you can contact your local triathlon club or race director for information about how to get started and how to build up to longer races. Aggressive for age!: Double Iron Man? Is this twice the distance of an iron man? This sounds very aggressive for this age of child! Children are not little adults and even a teen of this age should not be training at this level in my opinion. She may suffer stress injury, potentially stress fracture and is probably not emotionally able to handle this.

Yes.: Physiologically she should not even be doing a single. Without extensive examination by an orthopaedic surgeon, endocrinologist, physiologist, and cardiologist she should not be considering anything of this magnitude, intensity or duration. She is still growing and the metabolism is ever changing. Furthermore, I doubt that the USAT would allow it. I am a certified level I Triathlon coach.
