It depends: It depends on what kind of anxiety you have, and what your doctor has prescribed for you. Both Mellaril and Chlorpromazine are older antipsychotic medications which often have sedating effects as well. Psychotic anxiety can certainly respond to these medications, but if you have a non-psychotic disorder there may be better medicines for you. Please discuss with your psychiatrist.

Agree w Dr. Pappas: I would not recommend using neuroleptics for anxiety unless a number of other medications have already been tried.
