Cellular toxicity: There are likely many mechanisms of action but it is perhaps most important to mention that excessive acetaldehyde and alcohol that accompanies binge drinking is cytotoxic and can lead to cellular death and injury. The biochemical mechanism likely involves oxidative stress and protein denaturation. There is also the metabolic damage that binge drinking does in terms of calories. Stay safe!

Inflammatory changes: Alcoholic beverages contain ethanol, which is metabolized to acetaldehyde in the body. In binge drinking acetaldehyde levels rise and remain high for many hours after drinking. This causes blood cells called monocytes to become more sticky and attracted to artery walls -- also increases in other factors which cause inflammatory changes in vessels. http://tinyurl.com/la7lzx7.
