5th nerve: The 5th nerve is the trigeminal nerve, so they are looking for abnormalities involving the trigeminal nerve. Meckel's cave is a space in which part of the trigeminal nerve(trigeminal ganglion) is located, so a complete 5th nerve evaluation must include Meckel's cave. They may be looking for things that could affect the 5th nerve: anatomic variations, masses, and inflammatory processes.
