Possible problem: Orthopedic surgery to harvest iliac crest bone for repair of an acromioclavicular joint is frought with concern for injury to the iliolumbar ligament, and this is well reported in the medical literature. Loss of integrity of the iliolumbar ligament predisposes to chronic painful sacroiliac joint subluxation disorder and chronic sciatica. Many orthopedic surgeons are ignorant of this dynamic.
