A member asked:

What are some problems of coming off of a steroid like prednisone too quickly?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Adrenal crisis: The most serious, and potentially life threatening, is adrenal insufficiency. This can occur when you have taken steroids for a prolonged period of time (usually greater than 3 weeks) and then you abruptly stop them. The way to stop steroids in this case is to gradually decrease the dose slowly (taper). Other problems can be a flare of whatever disease you were treating with the steroids initially.
