Scabs: A "scab" would typically be considered an healing coagulated blood material with epithelialization occurring under the material. When it "falls off" the skin has healed under the scab. With chronic wounds (over weeks old) do not heal, then the material is a necrotic (dead) material. In wound care some form of removal (debridement) would be required prior to resolution. Antibiotics also used.
