Usually not: Fibroids (myoma) are benign tumors of the muscle of the uterine wall. Although there is a cancerous form, this is exceedingly rare. Fibroids cause problems based on where they are and how many and how big. Problems include abnormal bleeding, pain, pregnancy problems, and mass effect (the fibroid pressing on other organs like the bladder causing a frequent urination because it cannot fill up).
