It is safe: Anthrax vaccine is used for military personnel and laboratory workers. Some experience mild discomfort at the vaccine site- redness, tenderness, itching etc. About 10% develop some fatigue. Allegic reactions are very rare (less than 1 in 100, 000). A good place to learn about vaccines is the vaccine information sheet (vis) www.Immunize.Org/vis/anthrx03.Pdf.

Necessary protection: The anthrax vaccine is as safe as it can be made, but is only recommended for military, lab personnel and environmental workers who are at the highest risk for exposure to anthrax spores. Antibiotics can only kill the bacterium -- not the spores that would be more likely used in a terrorist attack. http://www.chop.edu/service/vaccine-education-center/a-look-at-each-vaccine/anthrax-vaccine.html.
