A member asked:

My doctor thinks i am anemic from surgery. i never needed blood. how does anemia happen post op? what's the treatment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Complicated: I do not know what surgery you had, how long or difficult a surgery it was, and what your blood count and iron status was prior to surgery. Some people require surgery due to chronic blood loss or iron deficiency. Some people lose some blood during surgery ; take a few months to recover. Postoperative anemia is not unusual and can be treated with iron or other medications such as erythropoetin.
