Possibly: If your immune system is less mature or weak as in children or elderly adults, respectively, the symptoms may be more severe. Certainly the vaccine is only given to healthy adults for this reason.

Yes : The very young and elderly are typically affected more so and have higher rates of loss of life or prolonged recovery by any serious infection.
