The 'OBSESSION' as: You termed it - is that breast cancer can be screened for. It can also be treated (with variable results). Breast cancer kills men ; women. Most of us don't desire to die tragically early or tragically painfully - nor would we wish that on loved ones. What you called obsession can also be viewed as support, education ; empowerment.
