Demyelinating diseas: Refers to loss of myelin in the central/peripheral nervous system. In the CNS the most common cause is multiple sclerosis (ms). In the pns the most common cause is diabetes. Symptoms for CNS demyelination depend upon where the lesion is located- visual, motor, sensory... In the pns, symptoms for demyelination include paresthesias, numbness, burning, weakness and usually starting in the legs.
