A member asked:

When a person is in intense pain does the body block the nerve signals to lessen the pain?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Absolutely it does.: We don't appreciate how MUCH the body itself has its own very EFFECTIVE modulating hardware and software which knocks down the perception of pain by orders of magnitude. We don't appreciate just how potent and effective enkephalins and endorphins are. They are orders of magnitude more powerful analgesics than morphine, dilaudid, and even cocaine/PCP can be put together.
