Heartburn 4-40 weeks: Heartburn is common during a pregnancy due to hormones that are produced that relax the sphincter (door) between the stomach and the esophagus (the tube leading to the stomach). Preeclampsia (which occurs most commonly at the end of the pregnancy) is defined by 3 common signs: elevated blood pressure, protein in the urine and swelling. Preeclampsia can cause right upper quadrant pain when severe.

Not likely: Heartburn is very common during pregnancy and in itself is not a symptom of preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is marked by high blood pressure, headaches, abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and swelling, to name a few symptoms.
