A member asked:

I need your expertise, is autism considered to be a form of retardation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Poor term: Autism is a disorder of socialization that may or may not be associated with underperformance on iq tests. On the other hand, almost all kids that were labeled "retarded" years ago have some problems with socialization. Many truly autistic kids have normal or exceptional thinking capacity and far exceed normals in many areas.
