No, not necessarily: Dense breasts are a common finding in mammograms of younger females. It is really a physiologic effect of hormones. As women age breasts become less dense. Breast cancer can be more difficult to detect in dense breasts, so an ultrasound examination is often added to mammography in order to get a more detailed look inside the breast.
