Not to excess...sap: Agave plant? This plant has several edible parts--flowers, leaves, stalks, basal rosettes, and sap. For the most part, edible agave can be delicious and provides good fibers and should not pose problem for diabetics, except the sap. The sap is quite sweet and can sub for the sugar we use..It is a natural sugar so better than table sugar..But excess is still not good..So moderation! good luck.

Best not to: Agave is "low glycemic index" because it's 90% fructose & is as bad as high-fructose corn syrup. Fructose causes Insulin resistance and significantly raises triglycerides (a risk factor for heart disease). It also increases fat around the middle which in turn increases risk for diabetes, heart disease and metabolic syndrome.
