A member asked:

Please help! i have a herniated disc and i'm only 16. why?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rare: A ruptured or herniated disc in a young (16) year old patient is rare in the absence of trauma. However, it can happen and if it is symptomatic with back pain with radiation down one of the legs, you may consider a consultation with a neurosurgeon. Most would be reluctant to do any operation unless all of the conservative measures (physical therapy, pain consult) have been exhausted.
