Canker sores are common aphthous ulcers of mouth that occur situationally, often in response to stressors, are bacterial or viral, ; can be treated topically with many otc products that reduce local discomfort ; potentially speed healing. However, oral/dental problems ; a number of systemic diseases cause canker sore-like lesions--crohn's, behcet's, std (sexually transmitted).

Depends: The herpes appears in very specific locations and has specific appearance. Not likely mistaken for a zit. Inside the mouth it will be found on the tissues immediately next to the teeth and also on the palate. Outside the mouth, most commonly around the mouth, and under the nose. See your dentist or oral surgeon if needed. Will resolve in 10 - 14 days. Good luck.
