Talk to: The doctor performing this test. This is part of what is called informed consent. You need to talk to your doctor performing this test. He can answer your questions for he knows why the test is being done. He can/will explain alternative treatments, risks, and complications.

Risks...: The risks involved include, throat pain/ache, fever, pneumonia, lung puncture, low oxygen levels, nose bleed, need for chest tube, death. The last one...is rare.
