No, it should not: Central lines used for IV access are common in patients on chemotherapy. One of the risks of these implantable catheters and ports is bacterial infection, leading to bacteremia, or bacteria in the blood. One of the reasons for removal is to minimize the risk of having the heart valves become infected also, called subacute bacterial endocarditis.
