Swelling: Swelling usually indicates an infection, either of the tooth ( deep decay or trauma, or the gums (gum disease, food impaction). If there is pain, or if the swelling does not subside within 3 days, see your dentist for an examination and x-rays.

Need examination: Pain/bleeding/swelling are signs of a more serious problem. Diet would cause generalized rather than localized problem. Teeth don't suddenly shift. It's a glacier-slow process. Probably tooth or gum infection. Please call your dentist for evaluation and rx before little problem becomes big one.
