Injury?: Your history is a bit vague . Clarify what u mean by 'weak'. Does your knee feel like it's going to "buckle" going down stairs, does it feel unstable or 'loose' , did u have an injury recently? Be specific and the answer may be more helpful. X- rays are commonly" negative ". A good history and thorough phys. Exam by a board certified ors should give u a presumptive dx.If unhappy, see another ors.

See below: I would start in a supervised exercise strengthening program under a licensed sports physical therapist and concentrate on your vmo and transition to a outpatient gym regimen. With the recommended exercising you're doing with the physical therapist good luck thank you.
