Latent tuberculosis: The tuberculin skin test involves subcutaneous injection of 0.1 ml of purified protein derivative of tuberculin material. Relative to some other injections, it involves little pain. The purpose is to identify people with latent TB infection. If you have latent tb, you may need isoniazid, if you are at risk for development of active tb. Active TB is transmissible to others in the community.
