Too long: Sperm last aprox. 72 hrs. Best way to conceive is to use ovulation kit and have intercourse when is positive.

Might be bad timing: I usually tell couples to do 3 things. She takes basal body temp for 3 months to see if temp elevates. He gets a baseline sperm count. They have intercourse 12-24 hours before predicted ovulation and then the day after also. Checking your am temp before you get out of bed for three months helps you as much as any medical exam. Be sure to do this before seeing a specialist.

Timing: You could conceive by having sex 5 days before ovulation. But 3 days or less increases the likelihood of conception. Start having sex about three days before you expect to ovulate and have sex every other day until at least two days after ovulation. The closer to the time of ovulation tat you have sex, the better the conception rate. Good luck.
