Dr says wait til 50 yrs old to have reconstructive knee surgery. currently 47. what's the reason? do they only last for so many years?

Revision: That's the primary reason you are asked to wait. Essentially, you should exhaust non-operative therapy: injections, medications, therapy, etc and once your knee pain is changing the way you live your life it is then time to consider a replacement. Good luck.

Natural knee best : Your natural joint is your best joint. Artificial joints do not last forever. How bad is your natural knee. To answer better we need to know what the true diagnosis is and what type of surgery would be anticipated. Are you you a candidate for a joint replacement ? Very important is that you continue to have excellent and vigorous knee exercise I have patients that we've been able to avoid surgery by great physical therapy and patient compliance.
