Needs exam: If it has been there for 3 years and has not grown, it is probably not a malignant process but nobody can tell for sure without a good physical exam and maybe some radiologic studies. Tell her to visit her primary doctor for an evaluation. If she still smokes, tell her to quit. Hope is all well.
