There are different categories of thyroid problems: autoimmune, neoplasia (benign or malignant), fibrosis, etc. The most common general category is autoimmune attack, which can have normal function, hypothyroid, or hyperthyroid. The second most ommon category, neoplasia, doesn't affect thyroid hormone production, but benign or malignant tumors (nodules) can grow. Those account for most problem
