HIV as a pathogen: Hiv is an RNA retro-virus. It is spread via infected cells by blood or body fluids (e.g.: semen, breast milk, immune cells in the colon or vagina). The virus attaches to uninfected cells having a specific (cd4) receptor site. Once in the cell, the RNA virus changes to a dna virus, enters the nucleus of the cell ; integrates into the dna. It then uses the cells dna to live/replicate/spread.
