Hives: Evidently you are probably allergic to something that is causing the hives. Try eliminate things in your diet or environment that may be causing them. I would suggest you see a physician for treatment.

How long?: If the hives have been going on for more than 6 wks (some say 8 weeks) and do not respond to antihistamine, you should consult an allergist. It is rarely that chronic ( as opposed to acute )hives are caused by a food , contact, or inhaled allergens.
