Brain scans: Psychiatrists can order brain scans -- meaning head ct's and mri's. There must be specific reasons from clinical findings to warrant these exams though. The uk has a different payor system for health care than the usa does. In the usa, the scans must usually be preauthorized by the patient's insurance company or the charges will not be covered. The uk has a different process for this.
